WPK Steers Country to Prosperity

Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The Korean people, including the servicepersons, have celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

On this occasion they pay the highest tribute to President Kim Il Sung for the imperishable feats he performed for the prosperity of the country, vowing to realize his desire for the building of a thriving nation without fail.

He started revolutionary activities in his early years with a high aim to build a strong independent and prosperous nation and explored a new way of building a Juche-typed revolutionary party.

He founded the WPK on October 10, Juche 34 (1945) to accelerate the sacred cause of the building of a powerful socialist country started by the President in Mt. Paektu.

Under its wise leadership the army and state building was successfully carried out after the liberation of the country from the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and the country developed into a socialist state, eliminating the centuries-old backwardness and penury through the great advance of Chollima (a legendary horse running 400 kilometers a day) and displaying the might of heroic Korea.

The cause of the building of a thriving nation has been successfully carried forward by Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the WPK.

He, with an unshakable will to turn Korea into a dignified, prosperous and powerful socialist country, has devoted himself to realizing the President's desire for scores of years.

After starting the Songun revolutionary leadership in the 1960s, he has brought about a fresh turn in political, military, economic, cultural and all other fields of the revolution and construction, ushering in a great heyday of the WPK era in the 1970s and 1980s.

A great leap unprecedented in the history of the nation has been witnessed in the Songun era under Kim Jong Il's outstanding and veteran leadership for the building of a thriving nation.
