UK KFA statement denouncing Ulji Freedom Guardian exercises in south Korea

UK KOREAN FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION
                              London 5 August 2012

The UK Korean Friendship Association issued the following statement today in connection with the so-called "Ulji Freedom Guardian " exercises to be staged in south Korea,
The US and south Korea are planning to hold the Ulji Freedom Guardian war exercises against the DPRK in south Korea from August 20th to the end of August.
Not only do these exercises involve 30,000 US troops plus some 500,000 south Korean troops but also Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles are been brought in. These MRAP vehicles are obviously intended to be able to cross the heavily mined DMZ between the DPRK and south Korea so are part of a rehearsal to invade the DPRK. It is a lie that these exercises are a defensive.  They are clearly aimed a forcible  "regime change."
Another noteworthy factor is the US imperialist have dragged a number of countries under the title of "UN forces ". These countries include the UK. We demand that the UK does not participate in these aggressive exercises against a sovereign nation which the UK recognises and has had diplomatic relations with for over 10 years. The involvment of countries of the so-called "UN Command" in
south Korea( in reality the UN Command is a ghost like body with no real existence) is an attempt to internationalise the anti DPRK offensive of the US and south Korea against the DPRK , to assemble yet another "coalition of the willing" to fight on behalf of the US.
Ulji Freedom Guardian is not just a severe challenge to the DPRK,its independence and dignity, but also  a massive threat to world peace. Who can say that a war could not start as a result of Ulji Freedom Guardian.  A war on
the Korean peninsula sparked off by such foolhardy exercises could quickly engulf East Asia and then the whole world.

UK KFA calls for the exercises to be cancelled and we  reiterate our long standing demand for the withdrawal of US forces from Korea. We call on the anti -war forces of the UK to foil moves of the UK to participate in these exercises

UK KFA.
