Section Doctor System

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea enforced universal free medical care in 1953, enabling all people to live without any worry about medical treatment.
In socialist Korea the public health system puts the main emphasis on preservative medicine. It takes measures in advance so that all people may not fall ill.
In accordance with the nature of the socialist preservative medicine hospitals and clinics have been built in all urban and rural areas with a definite district as a unit.
In the 1960s there was established the section doctor system, an advanced medical service system.
Under the system doctors regularly visit the districts in their charge and look after the health of inhabitants with responsibility before they fall ill.
All inhabitants get their health care cards as soon as they are born and doctors are well acquainted with the inhabitants in their charge and take more scientific measures for the preservation and care of diseases.
In Juche 82 (1993) the section doctor system developed into a form of combination of household medical care system in the main with the system of medical responsibility for work places in conformity with the actual situation of the district.
The system of medical responsibility for work places is a popular medical service system which makes doctors look after the health of the employees in charge and improve the hygienic conditions of labor and thus take preservative measures in time.
Like this, everybody in the DPRK enjoys medical service at his home and work place.
Under the section doctor system the DPRK firmly established a system to prevent any infectious disease in time and all people enjoy a more civilized and happier life in good health.
