Abrogate Unequal SOFA!

Abrogate Unequal SOFA!

Fifty-one years ago, the south Korean authorities concluded the humiliating and unequal "Status of Forces Agreement" (SOFA) with the US on July 9, 1966.
The SOFA is a modern slavery agreement legalizing the US forces' presence in south Korea and granting them unlimited privileges.
The agreement ignores the sovereignty of the south Korean people and protects the interests of the aggressor forces from the first article to the last one as it stipulates the issues of "criminal jurisdiction," "use of land and facilities," "tax business" and "immigration control," etc.
Under the patronage of SOFA the US troops are committing hideous crimes such as violence, plunder, murder and rape in south Korea almost every day.
Murder of Yun Gum-i, driving armored car over middle schoolgirls to death and other murders by the US troops were the cruelest and most brutal ones baffling human imagination.
However, the criminals of the US forces escaped punishment and the ruling quarters of south Korea kept mum about the incidents.
What is more serious is that the present ruling forces representing "mindset of the candlelight demonstrators" are openly revealing the pro-US servile attitude, calling for strengthening the "alliance" with the US.
The south Korean people are accelerating the action to annul the humiliating and unequal SOFA.
If the US troops are stationed in the vicinity of Cheonan city of South Chungcheong Province, the residents would be seized with apprehension such as murder, noise and environmental pollution, a civic organization in Cheonan city noted in June last and criticized the municipal authorities for wasting taxes extracted from the people with illusion about the US army.

Some days ago, civic bodies held memorial services on the lapse of 15 years since the two girls were killed by a US military vehicle at which they called for the people to turn out in the campaign to nullify the humiliating SOFA.
The humiliating and unequal south Korea-US "Status of Forces Agreement", a disgrace to the nation, should be abolished.
