KCNA Commentary Accuses U.S. of Disturbing Repair of Inter-Korean Relations

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is working hard to check the trend of national reconciliation and unity created with much effort on the Korean peninsula.

High-ranking officials of the White House, Department of State, Department of Defense, CIA and Congress are spouting rubbish every day.

They are saying "Olympics should never be a ground for north Korea's social system propaganda", crying out for "tightening sanctions and pressure on north Korea in order not to be deprived of the initiative in handling the issue of the Korean peninsula."

Against this backdrop, the U.S. announced on Jan. 24 that it would independently impose additional sanctions upon the DPRK. Next day the under secretary of Treasury flied to south Korea to urge it to maintain thoroughgoing cooperation in imposing sanctions "upon the north."

The U.S. also sponsored meetings with those concerned of south Korean diplomacy and defense one after another, where it stressed the need for them to lead the north-south dialogue to the one for denuclearization.

It invited high-ranking security officials of Chongwadae and the military of south Korea to the U.S. to discuss the issue of intensifying "military cooperation" against the DPRK.

It massively brought nuclear aircraft carrier strike groups and nuclear strategic bombers to the Korean peninsula and its vicinity. It is asserting that it is to resume the U.S.-south Korea joint military drills right after the Winter Olympics. It staged a flying corps strike drill targeting the DPRK in league with the Japan Air "Self-Defense Force."

All facts go to clearly prove that the U.S. is getting crazy to chill the atmosphere of improving north-south relations created by positive measures and proactive role of the DPRK.

If the U.S. truly supports and welcomes the north-south dialogue, there is no need for it to malignantly slander the DPRK's participation in the Winter Olympics on the international arena and to invite the south Korean diplomatic and security officials who are "busy with preparations for the Olympics" to the U.S. one after another to force its ill intention on them.

It is the sinister design of the U.S. to make the north and the south stand in confrontation eternally and create constant tensions on the Korean peninsula from the calculation that the better peace environment on the peninsula makes the U.S. lose its justification for igniting a nuclear war against the DPRK and puts the brakes on its drive for carrying out the strategy for dominating Asia.
